Minas Tirith - Top Of The Wall

I run around, kill some guys to get to a ladder, then I try attacking the ladder, and every other possible button on it but the ladder won’t fall down! What do I do?
I’ve tried holding down the buttons longer, pressing A or X while backwards, and if I somehow manage to get one ladder down (not sure how) I’ve tried climbing down the rope and pushing down the ladders from there, which I find NEVER works.

Because my friends say when I roll a nine, I go down not up a ladder, but when they roll a nine, it doesn’t count because they are sitting on the left of me so they got up snakes and ladders. But when I roll a five, I have to also move five backwards because I am a left hander and I throw with my left hand. But when I threw with my left hand it didn’t count because I am the second thrower and the second thrower has to throw with their left hand otherwise they lose.

Just curious… I was Google street-viewing downtown San Francisco (Especially some of the older parts of the city). How come many of the houses have decks at the front of the house toward the street with ladders going up the decks?
I am assuming it may have something to do with earthquakes. Any ideas?
