Ladders – For Those Hard To Reach Places

Chauntel Greenwald asked:

Spring is coming and there are so many projects to be done. One project that a lot of people have to conquer is pruning the hedges or washing those hard to reach windows. No matter what hard to reach task is at hand you will want to make sure that you have a good ladder. If you are still holding on to the old unstable one that you have to lean just the right way or else it will topple it may be time to look into a new one. There are a variety of different ladders that you can choose from.

If you want a ladder that you are able to reach those hard to reach places but also want to be able to put tools or other things needed for your projects you may want to look into a ladder with a mobile plat form. A mobile plat form is a flat service that you can move up the reams so that you can still reach high but also have a flat service for stability as well as your tools. If you want a ladder that you can quickly move around but are able to adjust the height you may want to look into a combination ladder. A combination ladder has the A frame ladder but has a ladder that you can extend above the normal ladder. This is convenient so that if in the middle of a project you decide that you need a longer ladder but don’t want to go through the hassle of having to lug out another ladder.

If you have a variety of different jobs that you use a ladder for you might want to look into a folding ladder. A folding ladder is great. You can fold it in thirds or use it as an A frame ladder. A folding ladder is going to be heavier than an aluminium ladder for the fact that you are able to bend it and move it different ways.

Why Ladder Training Is Vital

Thomas Pretty asked:

The ladder is used for all manner of tasks and functions in a wide variety of industries and businesses. However ladder usage is some times carried out in a dangerous way posing a risk to workers and those in the immediate vicinity. The Work at Height Regulations 2005 have put in place certain legislation in order to improve the safety of those working on ladders whilst also ensuring that suitable training is undertaken before a ladder is used. Thankfully a large number of companies now conduct training courses in line with the regulations as well as the recommendations of the Ladder Association.

These training courses set out to give workers knowledge of how to use ladders safely and the legal policies relating to their usage. It helps workers to understand their own responsibilities and obligations while acknowledging the risks posed by ladder usage. Training should give workers an idea of the correct way to use ladders whilst enabling them to spot any defects with equipment and to store that equipment safely and securely.

Hopefully the following information will give an insight into these training courses and more specifically how they encourage the safe use of ladders. In general ladders are regarded to be high risk pieces of equipment in the workplace. In most cases, if carrying out lengthy jobs, a scaffolding platform or a piece of powered access machinery would be better suited to the purpose.

Most training courses will give trainees the essential information that should be included in a checklist before use. This is labelled as hazard identification and risk assessment and should always be performed before climbing a ladder. Firstly, it is always advisable to place barricades and warning signs around the equipment to ensure that all those in the surrounding area know somebody is working at height. Additionally, the angle of a ladder should be around 1:4, any more or less than this and the outfit can be dangerous. The equipment should always be placed upon a firm footing and in most cases should be secured both at the top and the bottom to ensure it does not slip. In terms of potential hazards, care should be taken to notice any electrical wiring or possible debris before erecting the outfit.

In terms of working on the ladder, adequate training will give workers essential knowledge. Knowing not to have more than one person working on the equipment at any one time is essential as multiple persons can make the outfit unsafe. As well as this, whenever ascending or descending the outfit workers should keep three points of contact with the rungs at all times, this means two hands and a foot or vice versa. The body should always be kept central to the equipment; leaning out is dangerous and can make the outfit unstable. When working on ladders near doorways, it is crucial to lock the door so no-one opens the door and knocks the ladder over. The last point is that heavy lifting should not be conducted from ladders; this will put strain on the body and usually break the three points of contact rule.

Hopefully this information has given workers the vital information on how to use ladders properly. Legally there are certain responsibilities of managers to ensure their workers only use ladders after suitable training. As a dangerous piece of equipment that can seriously injure, it is important to recognise the need for training and safety at all times.

Outdoor Design with Old Ladders

Chuck Greene asked:

want to liven up the outside of your home, but dont have a fortune to spend? A ladder may be just what you need to spruce things up. Below, check out some ideas for using old wooden ladders to spruce up and enliven the outside of any home. Potted Bookshelf Take an old rustic ladder and attach it to the wall of one side of your house. You can paint the ladder to suit the colors of your home or leave it with the rustic look.

Take small flower pots and paint the outsides of them with a design that suits you (or, if you’re a plain style decorator, leave them as is or purchase them in a color/design that you like) and put colorful flowers in them. Annuals work best. Then, put the flower pots on the rungs of the ladder for an instant bookshelf of flowers for the outside of your home. Flowered Shelves If you aren’t keen on putting screws into the outside of your house (especially true for those who have vinyl siding), try taking a ladder and setting it up on your front porch. Paint it to suit your tastes or leave if weathered for a rustic look.

Put a vine type plant on top to let it wrap itself around the ladder for an instant and creative trellis in a spot where you wouldnt normally put one. Patio Easel If you have kids who like to paint and value the flooring (and everything else) in your home, use an old ladder to create a quick and simple outdoor easel. Take the ladder and nail a piece of thin plywood to the front. Nail a chip clip to the top of the plywood and you have an instant outdoor easel that can be used and easily cleaned by spraying with the hose.

You Just Need Three Things: a Lovely Wife, Interests in Sports and a Ladder Rack!

Tim Saunier asked:

Last year I married my wife Jasmin and she convinced me to become more athletic. I haven’t played sports since I was 25. Of course I won a few competitions back then, but these were called “Beer Competitions” or “Burger Competitions” and the sport aspect is arguable. Now I am 32 and very lucky that my lovely wife helped make me more active and sporty. The beginning of my new sport passion was pretty tiring; I was not fit and after ten minutes I was not able to go on. But after two months it got much better. One reason for this fast improvement was the strict balanced diet I started following. So I can advise you that if you want to be fitter, you have to consider not only the activities you do, but your eating habits as well.

But back to all the sports my wife and I are interested in. Because I live in San Diego, one of my favorite sports is surfing of course. In my opinion, here in my hometown, we have the best waves in the whole USA; except those in Hawaii of course. So it is a must to go surfing here and to enjoy great beaches and great waves. Beside that, I have been enjoying a new passion of mine for the past few months: kayaking. I know it is not the typical sport everyone loves, but if the people would learn more about this great sport, the public opinion would change. You can find the beautiful spots when you go more northern: endless rivers and huge camping areas around them that you will fall in love with at first sight. The best part of the kayak sport is the fact that you never know what will happen next. I know that is kind of dangerous, but I love the thrill.

So my wife and I decided to go out and buy own kayaks. By doing this we are more flexible and can always take a little vacation up to the rivers. But how can we store two boats of this size in my truck? I have been dealing with this problem for a very long time and so I saw all kinds of possible solutions. But just one of them convinced me: The TracRac ladder rack. Even if the name of this product does not say anything about the possible storage of kayaks, the ladder rack is able to handle it without any problems. So I ended up buying it two weeks ago. I recognized that the ladder rack is built to last from rugged anodized aluminum and powder coated to seal against rust, corrosion and oxidation. But everyone knows that you should never believe a manual or a salesman, who just wants to make profit. So of course I tested my new lovely ladder rack instantly. We went to a small river close to Denver with both kayaks on the rack and it worked perfectly. And if I ever decide to go snowboarding, I can easily put the boards on the rack. I think that sounds good, doesn’t it? So follow my advice, play sports and store your stuff on ladder racks. It makes you happier, honestly!

How far off are your predictions from the ladder now?

Malditaa [Renee] asked:

What did you expect the ladder to look like after the NAB cup? Lol. I’m absolutely surprised how far off my predictions were!

All in comparison to the ladder now.
For those people who predicted a ladder at the start of the year.

How do I replace my smoke detector battery that is 16 feet high on the ceiling without buying a giant ladder?

Wagwan asked:

How do I replace my smoke detector battery that is 16 feet high on the ceiling without buying a giant ladder? The smoke detector is also located in the middle of the ceiling and not near any of the walls where I could have leaned a ladder. I’m thinking there is some device that helps with this?

Let the Ladder Roll: a Strategic CD Investment

Wain Roy asked:

Forget ordinary money market investments now. Think big and get real, for, Certificates of Deposits (CDs) is one surefire way to help your funds grow and earn high interest rates. However, there is one condition to having CDs. Your money is locked for a specific term and does not stay liquid anymore. This term generally ranges between one month and five years. If you withdraw money before its maturity, you lose a good deal of interest as a penalty.

CDs offer some of the best interest rates, but the funny thing about these is that you will never be able to predict the peaks or troughs. Trying to predict the future path of interest rates is not just an impossibility, but also silly. No matter how much facts and figures you have at your disposal, you will never know for sure! So why get into foretelling? Instead, take recourse to the ladder strategy in CD investment.

What’s that? The obvious question.

Bankers today don’t just rely on good banks to get good returns on their investments. Most are now turning to the laddering strategy. This gives some of the highest interest rates and you’ll soon know why.

It’s simple. Suppose you have $50,000 to invest. Normally one would think of putting the entire money into one CD. But in that case you run the risk of having no money at some emergency. You will be forced to go against rules, withdraw money and pay a penalty. Now the ladder method would recommend the same amount to be invested into five smaller CDs of $10,000 each with staggered maturity dates. Say the first CD of $10,000 has a one-year term, the second a two-year, the third a three-year and so on. This way you have one CD to mature at the end of each year for five years; and you can take proceeds from one that matures to invest on another five-rung ladder like the one you already have. Every year you repeat the process and what you ultimately get is a steady availability of money, along with good interests.

One advantage of strategic laddering is that all risks of betting huge CD money on dicey predictions are eliminated. Another advantage is that you always have some CD money to meet emergency needs. Also, you are almost always assured of the highest CD rates while laddering. Simply because, if you have invested on CDs with banks or other institutions that pay higher rates than their competitors, a continuous ladder would obviously mean more and more money.

But ensure that the maturities are in accordance with your cash budget. It’s not a good idea to start laddering without assessing your financial situation. In that case you would only end up meeting a dire money crunch and being hesitant to withdraw your locked investment. So, think, assess, plan and then enjoy the benefits of laddering.

Dog Boat Ladders- Help Your Pet Out of the Water!

OriginalCinsLLC asked:

A dog boat ladder is a must for everybody who has a boat and a dog that loves the water.  This product attaches to your boat ladder and allows your dog to enter the boat after swimming.  There is no longer a need to pull your dog out or have to assist in any way.  These ladders attach in seconds and can be easily removed in no time.  Your dog will feel safe and so will you knowing that there is a way to get out if the dog tires after a long day of fun.   Many times, dogs will be unable to enter back on to the boat and require their owner to lay down and drag them out.  This can potentially injure the dog and possibly yourself.  With a ladder, you will not have to worry any longer.  These ladders come in many shapes and styles and are made by several different reputable manufacturers.  Each one has its own unique way of attaching to the boat and are designed for different sized pets.

Boat ladders should ideally fold flat for easy storage, should be sturdy and durable and provide maximum foot comfort. One can find boat ladders in outdoor activities stores,  and special boat accessories shops or on the Internet.  Many sites out there carry these dog boat ladders.  If you are interested in Dog Water Safety, please consider a product like this for your boat.  Also be sure to always have your pet wear a life jacket as this will also help prevent drowning.  Dogs appreciate when their owners show them love and your pet will feel safe.  You will both be able to enjoy a exciting day in the sun.

What does it mean when you fell off a ladder in a dream?

◊ℓιqυι∂ιzє◊ [♫] asked:

A couple of days ago, I had this crazy dream of trying to climb a white ladder horizontally. I believe the place was an entertainment place, but I’m not sure if it was a casino or a circus. The last thing I recalled was my mom calling me.

What the heck does that mean? I have a few unusual dreams, but this made a deep impression on me.
