Try Kiva Ladders For Beautiful Country Home Decor

Craig Chambers asked:

Kiva ladders or Wooden Indian log ladders look wonderful in Native American style homes when combined with other southwestern home decorating accessories. While traveling or visiting the southwestern states you will undoubtedly notice that Indian log ladders have become the most universal symbols of American Indian style artwork, used for fabulous, rustic and western style interior design.

Kiva ladders are beautiful wood ladders usually fashioned from pine poles that have been scraped by hand. The rungs of the ladder are notched to fit into the upright poles, and rawhide lacing is used to join each piece together in a cross style design. The ladder is narrower at the top than it is at the bottom, adding a measure of height.

One exciting way to add the village style look and feel in your decor, without actually using pueblo designs, is to use the same primitive style, pueblo ladder or kiva log ladder. The ladders will create a subtle but definite pueblo or western look in the room. A kiva ladder also creates a great way to display a few of your most treasured western tapestries or Navajo blankets.

Other home decor items that combine well with wood ladders are Navajo throws, American Indian pottery and drums, wood dough bowls and rustic lamps with rawhide lamp shades. You can also use ladders to highlight unique styles you may like such as the kokopelli or other village designs. The use of the kiva ladder as a display rack will liven up the western decor in your interior decorating, add bright colors, and give the ladder a better sense of purpose and function.

There is something unique about pueblo style dwellings made of adobe bricks with their wood ladders on the roofs. This shape has become representative of southwest interior design and style. Many homes in the southwest are similar to the early pueblo style, and the kiva ladder is always used.

Pueblo designs are found on rugs, dolls, pottery, paintings, art, and rustic furniture. And, the rustic wood ladders are often used to decorate cabins, lodge style homes and also anywhere people like native or southwestern style.

Use some creativity. There is no limitation to how log ladders can be used. You can create an interesting look by using two ladders together like an “A” frame with rustic boards between them on the ladders rungs for shelves. It is possible you already own some rugs or tapestries you can use and put a small table beside it or an Indian drum and you will create a one of a kind and eye catching design.

A lot people also use kiva ladders as a place to hang Native style throw blankets to cover up with during those cold winter evenings. You could use kiva ladders as a place to hang extra blankets or afghans in your guest rooms when not being used.

Use kiva style log ladders in all your rooms, in the same style or differently without it looking overly done. So, if you want a truly unique Native Indian design element to add to your home decor, try using rustic wooden kiva ladders.

Kiva Ladders Enhance Rustic Design And Decor

Craig Chambers asked:

Kiva ladders or Wooden Indian log ladders are pueblo style accessories that work wonderfully for enhancing southwestern style in your home. While traveling or visiting the southwest you will no doubt notice that pueblo style log ladders have become the most recognizable symbols of American Indian style design and art, used to create captivating, rustic and southwest style home decorating. Kiva ladders are decorative wood ladders usually fashioned from pine logs that have been scraped by hand. The rungs of the ladder are then fastened to the two long poles with rawhide string. The ladder is smaller at the top than it is at the base, adding a dimension of height.

One great way to create the rustic look and feel in your home, without actually having pueblo designs, is to use the same primitive style, pueblo ladder or kiva wooden ladder. The ladders will create a subtle but definite pueblo or rustic look in the room. A kiva ladder also makes a great way to hang some of your most beautiful western tapestries or Navajo blankets. Other decorating accessories that look wonderful with decorative pueblo ladders are Navajo blankets, Indian pottery and drums, wooden dough bowls and primitive style lamps with rawhide lamp shades. You can also use ladders to draw attention to special designs you may like such as the kokopelli or other village designs. Using the kiva ladder as a way to display trinkets and nick-nacks will liven up the Native American theme in your interior decorating, add vibrant colors, and make the ladder functional in your home decor.

There is something interesting about pueblo style homes made of adobe bricks with their wooden ladders on the roofs. This image has become a true representation of rustic decorating and style. Many homes in the southwestern states are similar to the early pueblo style, and the kiva ladder is always an integral part. Pueblo designs are found on rugs, dolls, pottery, paintings, art, and rustic furnishings. And, the rustic wooden ladders have become popular in cabins, lodge style homes and also anywhere people like primitive or pueblo design style.

Use your imagination. There is no right or wrong way to how pueblo ladders can be used. You can achieve an interesting display or book shelf by using two ladders together and connecting them with boards in the middle. You most likely already own some tapestries you can use and put a small table beside it or an American Indian style drum and you will have created a unique and functional design.

A lot people also use kiva ladders as a place to hang southwestern throws to cover up with during those cool winter nights. You might use kiva ladders to display bed blankets or afghans in your guest rooms when not needed. Help finding coefficient of friction between ladder and floor?

Greg asked:

A uniform ladder 15 ft long is leaning against a frictionless wall at an angle of 53 degrees above the horizontal. The weight of the ladder is 30 pounds. A 75-lb boy climbs 10.0 ft up the ladder when the ladder starts to slip. What is the coefficient of friction between the ladder and the floor?

How do I secure a rope ladder?

Nora A asked:

I’m buying a rope ladder so that I can climb out of my bedroom window (PLEASE no whining about how sneaking out is stupid). I don’t know much about them, and I’m wondering how exactly to fasten it in my room, so that it stays put. My bed is heavy enough, and has metal legs that it could easily be attached to, but I don’t really know how a rope ladder works. Should I tie both sides of it to the bed? Carabiner? Thanks!

Getting on the Property Ladder

Parmdeep Vadesha asked:

Copyright (c) 2008 Parmdeep Vadesha

More and more first-time homebuyers are finding that climbing up the property ladder is becoming more and more like scaling a mountain. The sentiment is brought about by rising interest rates and skyrocketing house prices. These concerns are further compounded by the fact that lenders have stopped offering affordable mortgages. However, these do not imply that first-time homebuyers are doomed to struggle forever, as there are other ways for them to go up that ladder.

According to Nationwide, the price of the average first-time homebuyer’s home in London is nearing £250,000, and the snowballing effects of five interest rate increases add £80 a month to the cost of a £100,000 mortgage. This is proof that the property ladder is indeed getting harder to reach. In theory, young buyers are better off compared to the older generation. They are hard-working, well-educated and are well-paid However, the significant lack of supply and high prices are now making them stay off the market.

Obviously, there are solutions to this dilemma, including more affordable housing, mortgage tax relief and the cancellation of stamp duty for first-time buyers. In spite of this, buyers have to wait a long time before they can start enjoying these perks, if they ever come to realization at all. Fortunately, there are other options that first-time buyers can resort to.

Those who are considering a purchase may want to look at other schemes towards making home ownership a possibility. The following are some of the ownership methods made available even for those who have low income.

Shared Ownership

This type of home ownership scheme allows a homebuyer to buy a share of a property while the rest is owned by a housing association. This means the consumers pay a mortgage on the share they own, and rent on the rest. They can purchase more shares at a later time if they want to. Eventually, they may have the capacity to afford to buy the entire property.

This alternative is typically appropriate for those with regular income, but cannot afford to buy their own homes outright. Compared to buying a house privately, this option is considered less risky and more affordable because there is no need for a big mortgage. Shared ownership plans are usually run by housing associations.

Homebuy

This plan was initiated to assist housing association and council tenants purchase property on the open market. The homebuy scheme typically entails lending 25% of the purchase price. A buyer uses a mortgage and/or savings to pay the 75% balance. While he will not be obliged to pay anything towards the loan until the property is sold, he has the option to do so. During the sale of the property, the housing association will take 25% of the sale price, or less, if part of the loan has already been repaid.

This option is NOT available to:

1. Those who have rent arrears.

2. Buyers who are on housing benefit or have received it during the past 12 months.

3. Tenants who have violated the terms of their tenancy contract in the past.

Homebuy is obtainable in some areas only, and the number of loans is limited. Those who want to avail of said scheme must contact their landlord or the Housing Corporation.

Starter homes initiative

This alternative was developed for teachers, the police, nurses and other health workers, and is available to first-time buyers only. The initiative assists those who want to purchase a home near the community where they work but can’t afford the property prices due to their astronomical proportions.

Those who avail of this scheme may be entitled to:

* An interest-free loan

* A lump sum that doesn’t have to be repaid until the property is sold

* A shared ownership contract

Starter home initiatives are not available in all places, and the number of loans is limited. Most of these plans are offered in London and the south east. Interested buyers may get in touch with their local council or the Housing Corporation.

With these home ownership schemes, first-time buyers have other options to get a foot on the property ladder. Until such time when affordability is not an issue anymore, these alternatives will serve as better opportunities for consumers to buy their own homes.

Pool Steps and Ladders for In Ground Swimming Pools – Step-by-Step Guide

Brenda Masten asked:

In-ground pool steps and in-ground pool ladders are designed so that you can conveniently enter and exit your pool. Typically speaking, pool steps for in-ground swimming pools are installed in the shallow end of your pool and pool ladders for in-ground swimming pools are installed in the deep end. In many cases, installing pool steps and pool ladders for in-ground swimming pools is required by building codes so you may have no choice as to whether you invest in these accessories. Another function of in-ground pool ladders and the grab rails on in-ground pool steps is to give swimmers a place to anchor themselves should they need a rest during swimming. Moreover, in-ground pool ladders provide an easy exit point in the deep end of your pool.

Details of In-ground Swimming Pool Ladders and Steps

The design of in-ground pool steps and ladder can vary widely but there are some guidelines that should help you choose the right ladder and steps for your in-ground swimming pool.

Let’s start with a brief discussion of in-ground pool ladders.

• Most ladders will have 2 to 4 steps and should extend below water level by about 2 feet.

• Railings on pool ladders for in-ground swimming pools should be between 18 inches and 2 feet apart. This allows swimmers to fit comfortably between the railings as they climb in and out of the pool.

• There are various grades of ladders for in-ground swimming pools which are built to withstand anywhere between 100kg and 175kg. Consider the uses of your in-ground swimming pool ladder as well as building code restrictions when purchasing your ladder.

Likewise, pool steps for your in-ground pool come in a variety of styles and shapes.

• Before purchasing in-ground swimming pool steps ensure that the steps are appropriate for they type of pool that you have. Depending on the shape of your pool, in-ground swimming pool steps will vary in shape and size.

• It’s always advisable to choose pool steps for in-ground swimming pools that have a hand railing. This is beneficial for children and elderly swimmers and can help prevent slipping and accidents.

• Hand railings for in-ground pool steps should be installed centrally for wider steps.

• As with pool ladders for in-ground swimming pools, some in-ground swimming pool steps will have weight guidelines. Be sure to purchase steps that will be sturdy and easily support the weight of swimmers.

Choosing the Right Model for Your Pool

As mentioned, there are a wide range of in-ground swimming pool steps and ladders and you’ll want to choose the best model for your pool. When it comes to pool steps for in-ground pools the biggest considerations you have to make are about the size and style of the steps. Whether your pool is rectangular, round, oval or an irregular shape will limit your choices when it comes to pool steps for in-ground swimming pools. Be sure to check with the manufacturer or retailer about what kind of in-ground pool steps will fit best for your pool. Sometimes, in-ground pool steps will have to be custom made but in most cases you can find commercially available pool steps for your in-ground swimming pool.

As far as pool ladders for in-ground pools are concerned there is a wide variety available in the market today. When it comes to safety, in-ground pool ladders are not created equal so it is important to do your homework. In-ground swimming pool ladders can be either very cheap or quite expensive. As one might expect, a cheap ladder for in-ground swimming pools is more likely to be flimsy and less durable. In-ground pool ladders can be constructed from plastic, aluminum, stainless steel, or resin. A good rule of thumb is that plastic or aluminum pool ladders for in-ground pools are less sturdy and more affordable while stainless steel or resin alternatives cost more but are stronger and have a longer lifespan.

Think Safety

When it comes to owning a pool, you should know that safety is a paramount concern. While there are many options for inexpensive in-ground pool steps and ladders, these are not always your best choice if you’re thinking safety. Especially for in-ground pool ladders, it is important to invest in a high-quality, durable, and sturdy pool ladder. The fact of the matter is that pool accidents can be very dangerous and even deadly. Always ensure that your pool ladder for in-ground pools is installed correctly in order to minimize possible accidents. Moreover, invest in steps or ladders for in-ground pools that are strong and can support more weight than you expect is necessary. Children can be tough on your pool accessories and should your steps break or the in-ground pool ladder pull away from the side walls leading to unexpected accidents.

Where can I find a ladder for use with a bookcase?

Kristy asked:

I have a tall bookcase that requires a ladder. Where can I find one online? I have searched eBay and Yahoo and have found nothing. Ikea sells them, but we don’t have any Ikea stores in my state, and if I order one from their site, they will charge me over $300 just to ship it. If you know of an online store that sells nice, reasonably priced ladders for use with bookcases, please let me know. Thanks!
My town doesn’t have a Home Depot either.
I’m looking for something like this that doesn’t have to be attached to a wall:

Girls Next Door Star Climbs Up the Playboy Ladder

Groshan Fabiola asked:

Holly Madison from The Girls Next Door has transitioned from being in front of the camera to behind it, as she is ready to take on a more serious job as a photo editor. After gaining popularity in the E! reality show The Girls Next Door, where she is one of three of Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends, the 27-year-old Playboy playmate is ready to take on new heights with the famous men’s magazine.

In April, Holly Madison took the opportunity of becoming a photo editor as she became an apprentice of Playboy’s west coast editor, Marilyn Grabowski. This was featured in The Girls Next Door’s episode entitled “My Bare Lady,” where she helped design and create the girls’ 2007 The Girls Next Door calendar. After months of training and learning the details and intricacies of the business, she was promoted and is now currently working as Playboy magazine’s junior photo editor.

Madison may not have outstanding credentials, however she has exuded determination and worked hard in apprenticing and has shown great familiarity with Playboy pictorials as she has already worked on several occasions for the popular men’s magazine.

Back in 2003, the Girl Next Door shot a pictorial for Cyber Girl of the Week, a feature of the Playboy website. In addition, she also appeared on November 2005’s issue of Playboy magazine alongside Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson, as promotion for The Girls Next Door. They returned to Playboy magazine in its September 2006 issue.

Madison said that she was looking forward to engaging in new things as a junior photo editor.

“I think readers are sick of seeing the same cookie-cutter blondes,” she said in a conversation with Page Six. “I’m looking for natural bodies. I pay attention to what readers write in - and they do like to see diversity.”
