Mobile Safety Steps: an Essential Piece of Equipment

rajan mr asked:

Why strain yourself carrying heavy boxes or reaching for items off the top shelf? Why consider a fork lift truck when a set of mobile safety steps or bridging units could be just as effective? Mobile warehouse safety steps are an essential piece of equipment when picking goods from levels over 2m. Mobile safety steps typically give access to high storage areas safely and are made up of strong tubular steel. They have systems to prevent slipping and the rungs are set into the posts to make them safer at work. From 2 feet to 10 feet tall, mobile safety steps are available in spring action, lever break, push and foot lock variants. They are designed for easy access where overhead clearance is limited. The folding handrail feature provides an overall height advantage, thus allowing access through common doorways. One can even keep the mobile ladders out of public areas to eliminate potential hazards.

These portable ladders are designed so as to rest on a stable, strong, suitably-sized, immobile footing so that the rungs remain horizontal. The feet of these mobile steps effectively prevent from slipping during use by securing the stiles at or near their upper or lower ends, by any anti-slip device or by any other arrangement of equivalent effectiveness. Mobile safety steps are the ultimate in safety and are capable of reducing workplace hazards to a great extent. Also known as warehouse steps, they offer a safe and strong solution for all professional and domestic needs. Mobile Steps are available in a range of sizes and colors with easy glide; all weather non-slip molding treads.

Built with super quality steel these mobile steps are not only safe but also very convenient to use. The castors are spring loaded and retract when weight is applied to the step giving the non-slip base a firm and safe grip to the floor. The circular pads grip the floor when load is applied and are efficient in preventing the entire structure from slipping. The strong welded steel construction and quality finish with ribbed rubber or anti-slip tread surfaces make these machines quite attractive. In every case the usability of these ladders are checked before putting into use. There is a wide range of mobile safety steps available in the market. They give access to high storage areas safely and folds down making them easy to move around the work area.

If mobile safety steps are not provided at workplaces then there is always the risk of staff climbing up the racks to access stock. This can lead to damaged shelving and accidents from falling. So in order to provide a simple platform to provide safe access of materials and reduce physical efforts and risks of workplace hazards mobile safety steps are an ideal solution.

Industrial Ladders For Warehouses

Dominik Hussl asked:

Industrial Ladders are a vital component of a smoothly running warehouse space. Not only do these ladders help with the efficiency of a facility they also add to the safety of the employees that are operating the warehouse. These types of ladders allow workers easy and quick access to any storage area that is at an elevated location like a pallet rack with several rack spaces can be around 8ft tall making it quite difficult to reach the top rack. Of course if you are storing heavy items a forklift or similar piece of machinery maybe needed, however if you are retrieving smaller items that are stored in an elevated area a industrial rolling ladder is probably the easiest and safest way to go.

When choosing an industrial ladder it is always best to think about the job that the ladder is supposed to do before acquiring one. There are several types available so the best course of action is to figure out what you need and pick the most appropriate ladder for the job. One of the more diverse ladders is a rolling ladder. Industrial Rolling ladders generally have 4 wheels which can be locked in to place to secure the ladder once its in the position you want it in. Also the ladder has a side rail for safety. The steps are usually constructed with a non slip surface or a grooved for an improved grip, making it safer for employees using the ladder. The beauty of this type of ladder is that once the job is done you can simply move it to a spot where it is out of the way and it can be used at many locations within a warehouse quite easily by just rolling it from location to location. This is much more convenient and safer then carrying a folding ladder around the warehouse.

Walkthrough style Industrial Ladders are another way to go, however the draw back to this type of ladder is that it is permanently fixed in one location and can not be moved at will. This type of application is usually used for roof access and when working in large structures with extremely high vertical spaces.

Step Ladders are another tool that is quite easy to use to get to hard to reach places. These ladders are not designed to be used for real high places but rather come in to play when things are stored at a slightly higher location then eye level. They are made to elevate you a few extra feet to allow you to reach items that maybe on a higher shelf then is conveniently reachable without a step ladder.

Telescoping ladders are another excellent and versatile way to go. This type of ladder allows you to lock it in to place at different levels as well as making them easy to store in places where you could not store a conventional ladder. Telescoping ladders are generally design to handle light to medium work loads. For heavy loads a walk through style or Rolling ladder are the correct way to go. Since those types are more geared towards heavier loads.

Ladder Safety

Haig Artan asked:

Ladder safety begins with selecting the right ladder for the job and includes inspection, setup, proper climbing or standing, proper use, care, and storage. This combination of safe equipment and its safe use can eliminate most ladder accidents.

Always check a ladder before using it. Inspect wood ladders for cracks or splits. Inspect metal and fiberglass ladders for bends and breaks. Never use a damaged ladder. Tag it “Defective” and report it to your supervisor.

When setting up an extension ladder, make sure it’s straight and sitting firmly on the ground or floor. If one foot sits lower, build up the surface with firm material, don’t set it on boxes, bricks or other unstable bases. Lean the ladder against something solid, but not against a glass surface. Make sure the ladder is placed at a safe angle, with the base away from the wall or edge of the upper level about one foot for every four feet of vertical height. Keep ladders away from doorways or walkways, unless barriers can protect them.

Keep the steps and rungs of the ladder free of grease, paint, mud or slippery material. And remember to clean debris off your shoes before climbing. Always face the ladder when climbing up or down, using both hands to keep a good grip on the rails or rungs. Never carry heavy or bulky loads up the ladder. Climb up yourself first, and then pull up the material with a rope or bucket.

Many ladder accidents occur because of slipping or skidding. You can prevent these accidents by equipping the ladder with non-slip safety feet, blocking its base and tying it to a sound, permanent structure.

Overreaching is probably the most common cause of falls from ladders. A good rule is to always keep your belt buckle inside the rails of a ladder. Don’t try to move a ladder while you’re on it by rocking, jogging or pushing it away from the supporting wall.

When you’ve finished the job, properly store the ladder so it won’t be exposed to excessive heat or dampness and will be in good condition for the next time.

Safety First on Choosing Ladders

Mat Isaac asked:

Before buying anything it is important to shop around for information on quality, price, and uses. It is very to easy to get the first needed item that you see but buying something is also like investing. Sometimes cheap items are not so cheap at all when you consider things like quality. It is better to purchase something more expensive that will be able to use that item for a long time than to buy the shoddy counterpart that you can only use a few times.

A ladder is something that may seem insignificant for everyone but if you are going to consider your safety you have to think twice before paying for a ladder in a rush. There are a few important facts to have to know when acquiring a ladder. First determine what will be your likely usage for the item, most probably for home repair and improvement, then who will likely use it and lastly how high do you want it to go.

Types of Ladders:

There are many types of ladders such as industrial, commercial and household type of ladders. These ladders will depend on the weight load capacity. For home use it will be the household types. There are also many kinds of ladder depending on the usage. Below are some of the kinds of ladders which can be used for simple home repair and improvement.

Platform Step Ladder.

A platform step ladder gives an ample platform for the user and any tools. A platform ladder opens like a scissor at the bottom which gives more stability for those working alone. This kind of ladder has an adjustable height and has a locking mechanism to hold the platform in place.

Extension Ladder

An extension ladder is a one sided ladder which can be extended into various heights. Some extension ladders can have 3 parts which can be extended up to 10 meters. An extension ladder doesn’t have the stability that a platform step ladder can offer but it can reach higher that the platform step ladder.

Combination Ladder

A combination ladder combines the stability a platform step ladder can do and can also be configured as an extension ladder.

These types of ladders have its advantages and disadvantages, I would recommend using a platform step ladder or a combination ladder for home use because of its safety features.
